After months of uncertainty, the news is confirmed: B-label cars will say goodbye to Barcelona from 2028.
The Government of the Generalitat, led by Salvador Illa, has given the green light to the controversial decree that will ban the circulation of vehicles with label B (yellow) in the Low Emission Zones (ZBE) of municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants from January 1, 2028.
This measure, originally approved by the previous ERC government, had generated controversy among several affected municipalities in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, such as Badalona, Mataró, Sabadell and Tarragona, which argue that the ban will especially harm residents with more modest incomes, as well as small entrepreneurs and the self-employed.
The Government’s decision to maintain this regulation has provoked the suggestion of some of these municipalities not to apply the decree and to look for alternatives to improve air quality without imposing such severe restrictions on the circulation of vehicles.
Pending these alternatives, the ban on yellow label vehicles in the ZBE is already confirmed, so the owners of this type of vehicles will have to start considering mobility alternatives for 2028.
