From 2023 the Government is introducing a measure so that young people between 18 and 30 years old can travel with great discounts (up to 90%) during the months of June, July and August, in interrail, medium distance trains, long distance and buses of state lines.
This measure, called “Verano Joven”, has been a huge success at national level for two years, with more than one million young people traveling around Spain and Europe with these discounts. As summer approaches, and with getaway and vacation plans underway, the question on many of our minds was: when will the discounts return in 2024?
Apparently, the answer is yes, and this has been announced by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, which has already explained all the details of Verano Joven 2024 at a press conference.
What discounts are expected in 2025?
Although the final conditions have not yet been published, the discounts are expected to be very similar to those of 2024.
As last year, the aids will serve to take transport throughout Spain and also for trains such as Interrail, which will serve to travel outside the country.
These will be the main subsidies:
- Medium distance trains: 90 % discount.
- AVE and commercial trains (Renfe and other operators): 50 % discount (with a maximum of 30 € per ticket)
- Avant trains: 50 % on single and return tickets
- Interrail Global Pass (valid 10 days in 2 months): 50 % if purchased through Renfe
- State regular line buses: 90 % discount
In 2024, more than 1.4 million young people took advantage of this opportunity, making more than 5 million journeys between July and September.
When will the tickets be available?
The exact dates have not yet been announced, but everything points to the campaign being active between July 1 and September 30, as was the case in previous editions. The Ministry of Transport is expected to expand the information throughout June, so it is advisable to stay tuned.
Who is eligible for the Verano Joven 2025 program?
All persons who meet the following requirements are eligible for these discounts:
- Be born between January 1, 1995 and December 31, 2007.
- Spanish nationality or legal residence in Spain
How to get the discounts?
In order to access the discounted tickets, it will be necessary to register in advance on the Verano Joven website, which will be set up by the Ministry of Transport. The process can be done through the Cl@ve system, electronic ID or by entering the DNI/NIE directly on the platform.
Once registered, users will receive a personal and non-transferable code, which can be used when purchasing tickets at Renfe, bus operators or on the Interrail website.
