Decades ago, the famous “El Sevillano” train brought thousands of Andalusian immigrants to Barcelona until it became a myth. Today, a century later, a somewhat different train will once again connect the capital of Catalonia with the capital of Andalusia directly and without transfers, making it possible to travel at high speed and without getting off the train a route that crosses the entire peninsula.
Renfe has announced a new AVE service between Barcelona and Seville without the need to change trains in Madrid, which will allow, from April 23, 2025, to travel from end to end of the peninsula comfortably in AVE.
Timetables of the AVE Barcelona-Seville
The train will leave Seville every day at 06:00h, will pass through Cordoba at 06:45h and will arrive in Barcelona at 12:41h. The route will continue to Figueres, where it will arrive at 13:44h.
In the opposite direction, the AVE will leave Barcelona at 16:58h (except Saturdays) and will arrive in Seville at 22:49h, after passing through Cordoba at 21:55h.
The train will not be direct. The novelty is that it will be possible to make this route without getting off in Madrid and having to look for combinations. Therefore, this new service will also stop at other important locations such as Cordoba, Puertollano, Ciudad Real, Madrid, Zaragoza, Lleida, Tarragona and Girona.
Tickets are already on sale on Renfe’s website, its apps and the usual channels.
This connects southern Spain directly with other European cities thanks to the “European metro” that will connect Barcelona with several European cities with overnight trips.
