In a sad and real play on words,Barça, one of the greatest symbols of Barcelona, is also the symbol of one of the world’s great humanitarian dramas: that of the thousands of migrants who die every year in the Mediterráneo trying to cross in small boats to Europe. That is why in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, “Barça or Barzakh”, which translates as “Barcelona or death”, is the expression that has become widespread to talk about the two options for those who undertake the journey.
Arrive or die. That’s the concept that has now inspired, also, the new t-shirt of Top Manta, the clothing brand created by the Manta collective and which is also based on Barça’s aesthetics and a common slogan of theirs (Barça o mort) to vindicate the migratory drama.
The new jersey is inspired by the culé aesthetics, combining blue and maroon, with the slogan “Barça or Barzakh” and Top Manta logos on the chest. The campaign seeks to remind that, in 2023 alone, at least 6,618 people died in the journey by patera across the Mediterráneo, “turning this sea into the largest mass grave in Europe.”
The campaign has been launched with the support of several famous faces. Actors Carlos Cuevas and Miki Esparbé, actress Mia Salapatau and singer Mushkaa have participated in the promotional video clip to support the visibility of the cause.
