If there is something that makes us Catalans is the pa de pagès. For us, a good weekend breakfast has to contain, yes or yes, this food with a little tomato, oil and salt. And often, good things are in the simplest things.
Now, the people from Barcelona can say that the best pa de pagès of Catalonia is made in our city. And is that an oven of Horta-Guinardó, Montserrat Forners, just won the Concurs Millor Pa de Pagès 2024, held last November 23 in Banyoles.
The winning proposal was that of Marc Casamitjana, who was also the winner in 2022 of this same contest and, in 2023, was awarded for making the best coca de Sant Joan.
The Montserrat Forners oven was founded in 1894. In the beginning, it opened in the Sants neighborhood, but later changed its location to the current one, at 366 Castillejos Street, in Baix Guinardó. It is now run by Marc Casamitjana, who represents the fourth generation of bakers in the family.
