There are recipes that are culture, flavors that remain in the memory and dishes that tell a story. The crema catalana is all that and more. Now, this dessert so much our own finally has a temple of its own: Sucre Cremat, a small store located in the heart of the Born (C / Canvis Vells, 2), right next to Santa Maria del Mar, where only Catalan cream is served to take away.
The concept is simple: freshly made crème brûlée, with the crunchy sugar coating still steaming and ready to eat on the spot or take for a walk, with individual 150 ml terrines at 5 €.
Behind the project are Mario Quintero and Sofia Fortuna, a Brazilian and a Portuguese who have been living and working in Barcelona for years (they are part of the Quibuch Group, responsible for the Arcano restaurant), who wanted to express their Catalan roots or their love for the city in this place.
All, we are glad to say, with local and quality products: milk and cream from Llet Nostra, eggs from Girona (Ous de l’Estany), carquinyolis from Tarragona (El Cobo), ceramics from Sant Celoni (Regàs) and specialty coffees from La Finca.
Sucre Cremat’s goal is ambitious, but very clear: to make Catalan custard a must for anyone visiting Barcelona, in the style of the pastel de Belém in Lisbon. “We want no one to leave the city without having tasted a good crema catalana, and if it can be ours, all the better,” they smile.
