If the heat arrives, the works arrive. The previous summer has already passed, and this 2025 the L4, the yellow line, will be affected again for the third consecutive year in an important section of its route.
From June 25 to August 31, L4 will be cut between Verdaguer and Trinitat Nova, leaving several key stations in the north of the city out of service.
This will also mean a partial cut on L11, where trains will stop running between Trinitat Nova and Casa de l’Aigua.
What are the alternatives?
From TMB they assure that no one will be left hanging. Lines L3 and L5, which connect the areas affected by other routes, will be reinforced and a shuttle bus service will be deployed between Verdaguer and Casa de l’Aigua. These buses, 22 articulated buses in total, will run every four minutes during rush hour.
In addition, there will be a special bus for people with reduced mobility between Girona and Verdaguer, as Girona station is still not accessible. And, of course, regular lines such as the D50, H6, D40 or 76 will cover part of the affected route.
What works will be carried out?
The main reason for the works is to renew six kilometers of track with the replacement of ballast with concrete, improve signaling and advance in the modernization of a line that, by the way, remains the only one that still operates manually.
Beyond the cutting, this summer will serve to take a step forward in the modernization of the network. In addition to renewing the tracks, new interlockings will be installed at stations such as Trinitat Nova, Via Júlia, Girona and Maragall, which will make it possible to operate with greater flexibility in the event of incidents.
A new ventilation shaft will also be built at Guinardó, a key point for extracting material during the works and improving the safety of the route.
TMB has announced an intensive information campaign: there will be staff at affected stations, leaflet handouts, adaptations to digital planners and announcements on networks. The busiest stops on L4, such as Ciutadella – Vila Olímpica, Barceloneta or Passeig de Gràcia, will also have informers to guide confused travelers.
