Travel on Rodalies, Medium-Distance, and Regional trains in Catalonia will remain free of charge for passengers until April 30. The Catalan government has formalized a new extension of the benefit one day before the expiration of the previous term, initially set for March 31.
This decision fulfills the commitment made by the Regional Minister of Territory, Sílvia Paneque, who linked the continuation of free travel to the full restoration of rail service. The transportation network has been severely affected since January 27 due to the consequences of Storm Harry.
How the passes work
The passes include a total of 10 trips and can be obtained at ticket windows or from ticket vending machines at stations. These cards are not registered to a specific person, which makes it easy for multiple people to use the same pass. Once the trips are used up, the user can request a new one.
The measure will apply to Rodalies trains, regional services, Regional Express, and conventional Medium-Distance trains. However, Avant trains are excluded from this benefit, with the sole exception of the Tortosa Express. It will also not apply to Medium-Distance routes that run on the high-speed line between Barcelona and Lleida.
