Goodbye to looking the other way while the dog pees in the street. From 2025, dog owners will have to take charge and clean up the urine of their animals immediately.
This has been announced by the Barcelona City Council, which has reported that this measure will be one of the stars of the new civility ordinance, which will include penalties for those who do not clean up the urine of their pets.
The measure has been one of the most supported in the participatory process to reform the civic ordinance of 2005, and will come into force early next year.
The details of the rule have not yet been articulated. Among the accepted proposals, the obligatory carrying of a bottle with water or disinfectant liquid to clean up urine, as well as the prohibition of dogs urinating in flowerbeds, corners of buildings, lampposts or sidewalks, stand out. In addition, an information campaign is planned by the City Council, followed by sanctions for those who do not comply with the regulations.
The new civility ordinance also intends to regulate other issues related to the use of scooters, the parking of motorcycles in pedestrian areas and the proliferation of terraces and columbofilia, also raised during the participatory process.
