Cherry season brings with it one of the most deeply rooted events in the Baix Llobregat region. This weekend, El Papiol celebrates the 44th edition of its Cherry Festival with a program that combines gastronomy, popular culture, and community participation centered around the town’s most iconic product.
The Barcelona municipality of Papiol, about 30 minutes from Barcelona, will fill its streets from June 5 to 7 with its traditional cherry festival, organized by the City Council and the local Farmers’ Association.
The festival will kick off on Friday, June 5, with a wine pairing tasting in the church square, and throughout the weekend, visitors can explore the direct-sales stalls run by local farmers, alongside craft and food stalls.
In 2026, the town will revive the street speed painting contest, which has been reimagined under thename Art al carrer with the participation of the Baix Llobregat Urban Sketching collective.
On Saturday morning, participating artists will paint their favorite corner of the town and exhibit their works at the Castell del Papiol.
The popular cherry cooking contest will also return, organized in partnership with the Council for Children and Adolescents, which will invite participants to create creative recipes using this seasonal fruit.
Saturday night: community dinner and concert
Saturday, the busiest day, will feature a community dinner in the church square, in a potluck style—where each attendee brings their own dish—to which the farmers will add fresh fruit for dessert.
Bar service will be provided by Pamtu. The evening will conclude with a concert by the local band Perill Drac.
Throughout the weekend, there will also be performances by castellers, sardanas, drum circles, children’s workshops, blind tastings, and the classic cherry pit spitting contest. Cherry displays and exhibitions dedicated to the town’s history and heritage will round out the program, which can be viewed at this link.
The Papiol Cherry Festival is not the only cherry-themed event in the Baix Llobregat this weekend. Just a few kilometers away, Torrelles de Llobregat is celebrating its 46th edition with an even more extensive program that begins on Monday, June 2, and features a market, correfoc, castellers, and concerts through Sunday, June 7.
