It will be one of those postcards that will take Instagram by storm: the word “Barcelona” written in giant letters will crown the Tibidabo viewpoint, right next to the amusement park, more than 500 meters above the sea. As if Hollywood had moved to Vallès overlooking the Mediterranean.
The installation will be free for everyone who arrives at the viewpoint, and the letters -two meters high, one and a half meters wide and 50 centimeters deep- will be oriented towards the interior of the park. Why? So that when you take your photo, the city will be in the background… and the name will be very clear. So that there is no doubt about where you are.
Cinematic lettering for a park in transformation
The new sign is part of the renovation process of the Parc d’Atraccions del Tibidabo. The project, with a budget of 91,000 euros, was designed by architect Josep Miàs, who also designed the futuristic Cuca de Llum, the rack railway that connects the park with the city from Plaça del Doctor Andreu.
This operation is one more in the plan to combine history and future in Tibidabo. In fact, last year saw the inauguration of Merlí, a free-fall tower in the shape of a magic wand that lifts visitors up to 550 meters before releasing them.
Although viewing the letters will be free from the panoramic viewpoint, those who want to enjoy the most emblematic attractions of the park can purchase a special pass for 21.50 € (11.80 € for children under 1.20 m). This pass includes access to the Giradabo, the Talaia, the Carrousel and the mythical red plane, as well as a full ride on the Cuca de Llum to go up and down from the city.
