Catalonia is this 2025 World Region of Gastronomy and, to celebrate it, Pastisseria Escribà has created a giant Easter cake that pays tribute to Catalan gastronomy.
There are 70 kilos of chocolate representing typical dishes, local products and common utensils of food in Catalonia.
The presentation of the mona took place in the courtyard of l’Escola del Gremi de Pastisseria de Barcelona, in an event that brought together some of the most prominent figures of Catalan gastronomy. Among the attendees were Carme Ruscalleda, Eduard Xatruch, Oriol Castro, Carles Gaig, Albert and Ferran Adrià, Romain Fornell and Raül Balam, among others.
The mona was made by the entire pastry and chocolate team of Pastisseria Escribà led by Christian and Pol Escribà and Patricia Schmidt. The 70 kilos of chocolate make up a giant egg of 70 cm. decorated with ingredients such as sausages, sardines, Palamos prawns and Catalan cream, fruits, bread with tomato, fuets and even mongetes.
From Escribà explain that this mona stays in exhibition, because for children there is already Lamine Yamal, one of the great claims for this year’s monas. So, if you were thinking of a mona for your godchild, you can stop by to see this sculpture and then look at the Lamine that best suits you.
