In Barcelona, the city with delicious tapas, but always for a fee, a bar in the uptown area hides the precious secret that all Barcelonians seek: free tapas with the drink and, above all, quality.
And it is not just any bar. It is the Montesquiu, a bar with tradition that has at its head one of the great cocktail makers in the world, Javier de las Muelas, and this year celebrates the 71st anniversary of the premises.
To do so, the bar has recovered a selection of the tapas that were served in 1952 and the different containers that were originally used to serve them.
In addition, it incorporates new features, such as a patatas bravas counter located at the bar, or the offer of free tapas for customers who order beers from Monday to Saturday, between 19:00h and 20:30h.
The bar, opened in 1952, was acquired in 1991 by the cocktail maker Javier de las Muelas, also owner of the Dry Martini, and began to expand the menu. They explain that” it is a cuisine “where everything goes”, from marinated dogfish or sea anemones to dishes as diverse as poke bowl, chicken tikka masala, pizza, seafood or tuna tataki.
By the way, persistence has a prize, and this 2024, Montesquiu has won the Honorable Mention award at the Bravas Fest, an award that recognizes the trajectory of this almost centenary restaurant.
