Mother’s Day is strategically placed on the first Sunday of May. A date that ensures a full weekend of celebration, claiming care and, of course, pampering in the form of unforgettable plans. Because although every day of the year they deserve quality time, this weekend it’s time to throw the house out of the window. And if you don’t know where to start, a Fever gift card may be the way to go.
And beware, if we read another single proposal that includes a frying pan or more stale plans, we’re in for a treat. Your mother (or your mother figure) deserves much more than that. She deserves indulgence. She deserves the best of the best: adventures, flowers, gifts, glasses of wine, videogame marathons, and yes, also walks through the best exhibitions you can find in Barcelona right now.
So if you are looking for a different plan, with culture, art and that little bit of “wow, what good taste you have”, here we leave you a list with real proposals.
Paradox Museum
What? How? Those will most likely be the first words out of your mother’s mouth. No one fully understands how each room works, and that’s precisely the point. Located in the heart of Barcelona, Paradox Museum is an interactive, fun and visually fascinating experience that puts our senses to the test. The laws of gravity -and logic- behave differently. And that makes it ideal as a parent-child plan, if you ask us. You can get a gift card here and don’t worry about fitting in the schedule.
📍 Pl. d’Urquinaona, 3.
From 18€ for adults, 14€ up to 12 years old.
The 25th International Competition of New Roses
Not suitable for those allergic to pollen (or romanticism): from May 9 to 11, Cervantes Park blooms with the 25th International New Roses Contest, a great plan for Mother’s Day among rose bushes at their best, showcookings, concerts and outdoor workshops.
💸 Free!
📍 Av. Diagonal, 706 (Les Corts)
Alfa 5
Here there are spurts of adrenaline, yes, but also a good deal of healthy competition. Who hasn’t ever dreamed of playing a video game with their mother? Well, this makes it a lot easier: there are no buttons to explain and no controllers to configure. In Alfa5 you live it in first person and the only thing you have to control… is your body. Jumps, reflexes and, above all, teamwork. There is nothing like it in Barcelona, and you leave with a sweaty shirt and a happy heart. Who knows, maybe later your mother will take up the Sims… or dare to play GTA .Besides, you can get a gift card just in case.
📍 C/ de Bac de Roda, 64.
A bike route through the vineyards of the Penedès region
If this year you want to go for a different plan to celebrate Mother’s Day this may be the option you were looking for. A bike route through the vineyards of the Penedès area, where you can visit some of the most emblematic wineries of the territory with wine and cava tasting included.
With Penedès Ecotours you can start the tour in Vilafranca del Penedès, a municipality of reference in one of the most renowned wine regions of Spain, and from there trace a route of wines and champagnes through the vineyards and wineries around Barcelona. In addition, you can rent bicycles and do it “at your own pace” or with a guided tour.

If you can’t think of anything… here is some inspiration
A sunset sailing trip, a dinner at her favorite restaurant, an intimate concert or an experience that will bring a smile to her face. This Mother’s Day, it’s not just about the gift, it’s about spending time together. With Fever gift cards, your mother can choose whatever she wants, whenever she wants. This way, you can forget about the timings.
Take your mother to one of these spectacular spas.
In this article we wanted to trace a tour of our favorite spas in Barcelona (and Catalonia). We have selected several of different types: ancient, traditional, modern, surrounded by nature, hidden in the city … And we have done it traveling the length and breadth of Catalonia, because it is not the same a spa in the city (with all the good that entails) than one in the middle of nature. Which one does your mother prefer?

Candlelight Spring, hundreds of candles and flowers.
If you don’t already know this musical concept, you’re missing out. Hundreds of candles form the unique illumination of a concert hall, but what concert halls! Candlelight always takes place in exceptional locations in the city. And now, in the middle of spring, they present Candlelight Spring, where candles are also accompanied by flora, a very special gift for your mother.

A getaway to Picasso’s favorite village.
A getaway is always a good idea, and when the destination is “the most beautiful village in Catalonia” there is no debate that it is a sure hit. The destination we propose is Horta de Sant Joan, a small village in the interior of Tarragona that Picasso fell in love with and that for many of us was unknown.
It is a medieval village on top of a small hill in Terra Alta, surrounded by vineyards, almond and olive trees. In addition, in 2023 the prestigious travel magazine National Geographic as the most beautiful village in Catalonia and the fifth in Spain.

Hiking excursions near Barcelona.
One of the things that end up weighing us down about living in a city like Barcelona is the disconnection with nature and, for that reason, special days are the perfect opportunity to take the opportunity to put on your hiking boots and forget about the asphalt and tall buildings for a day.
So, if what you are looking for this Mother’s Day is some quality family time and a break from everyday life, we propose 11 hiking trails for which you will only need a backpack, pants with zipper and sunscreen.

Visit the flowering fields of the province
One of the best activities to do with the family and outdoors (now that we are in the middle of spring) is to walk through the fields of flowers.
They are true spectacles of nature that, contrary to what is sometimes thought, you don’t have to travel far from home to visit. This is a list of eight places in Catalonia that you can comfortably go to from Barcelona and a guide of when to see their fields in bloom.

A meal at one of the city’s most beautiful restaurants.
Taking your mother out to eat at a nice restaurant may not sound, at first, as a very original idea. However, this year we suggest you add an “extra” to your invitation and propose a menu in one of the most beautiful restaurants in Barcelona.
Art deco, exotic and avant-garde aesthetics are part of the art and design that fills the restaurants of Barcelona, and we wanted to make a selection of the most beautiful to ensure that you not only enjoy a good meal (which, of course, also) but also enjoy a unique and cozy space.

Flowers and special gifts…
Maybe it’s not so much an experience you’re looking for, but the most special bouquet of flowers or an original gift. As a bonus track to this list, we leave you our article about the best florists in Barcelona (many of them at home if you get caught by the bull) and another one about the most original and special gifts that you can find in the best concept stores in the city. Good luck!
