The end of summer always carries a nostalgic atmosphere, as if the afternoons were begging to linger a little longer beneath the string lights before giving way to the autumn routine. To make the most of the season’s final moments, the Mercantic venue in Sant Cugat del Vallès is hosting a new edition of its now-legendary night market this Saturday, September 12. From 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., the venue bids farewell to the summer nights with a mix of music, food, and open shops.
This event, now in its seventh consecutive year in the Vallès region, will transform 120 Rius i Taulet Avenue into a hive of activity with completely free admission. Visitors will be able to enjoy a community-focused program that includes workshops, live music performances, stalls run by independent creators, and secondhand corners—all designed to help you rediscover the city’s largest market under the stars.
Crafts and stalls with pop appeal
Throughout this year’s summer editions, visitors have been able to stroll among unique design offerings. The narrow streets of the venue have hosted creators such as Didi Atelier, which specializes in handcrafted eyewear, and designer Nathalie Chandler. Also among the stalls was Perfumeria Bonsuccès, a store with a century of history that boasts artists of the caliber of Rosalía and Amaia among its regular clientele.
A stroll and some shopping always work up an appetite, and the dining options at the venue are designed to satisfy every taste. Lovers of classic dishes and locally sourced ingredients are sure to find something to their liking at La Casa Ñidro, Can Gula, and La Taverna Catalana. On the other hand, those looking for a plant-based option can take a seat at Greta, a restaurant whose menu features 100% vegan cuisine made with locally sourced ingredients.
A historic spot just two minutes from the platform
To understand the charm of this place, you have to look back a bit. The venue was founded in 1992, making use of the structure of a former ceramics factory that Josep Barnils founded in 1956. Today, having established itself as a premier cultural center, getting there is as simple as taking the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC), since the complex is just a two-minute walk from the Volpelleres station (about half an hour from Barcelona).
Beyond this September festival, the market remains open year-round during its regular hours: Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Sundays in the morning, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
