Barcelona is getting ready to celebrate International LGTBI Pride Day on June 28th with a Program full of activities that will last for almost two months.
During this time, neighborhoods, municipal centers and museums in the city will offer proposals to make visible and defend the rights of the LGTBI collective. The “Pride Barcelona” campaign seeks to bring LGTBI Pride closer to the public from other less usual perspectives, such as art, culture or even commerce.
Neighborhood pride
From late May through June, Barcelona neighborhoods will host concerts, exhibitions, family storytelling, talks, documentary screenings and more to highlight the plurality of experiences and perspectives within the LGBTI community.
Among the programmed events are a variety show called “El Cabaret del FOK-Empodera’t” at the Mirador de Horta; a playful day of protest to eradicate LGBTI-phobic violence in the Sants-Montjuïc district; and a Drag Queen/King cycle at the Espai Jove Ca la Panarra where young people will be able to create their own drag character.

Pride of museums
Several museums will also reinterpret their spaces and collections with an LGBTI perspective through exhibitions, guided tours and workshops as part of the “Pride of Museums” proposal.

Orgull de comerç
Barcelona City Council has announced the launch of the “Trade Pride” project as part of this year’s LGBTI Pride campaign. The initiative seeks to create a network of businesses and establishments that become safe spaces for LGBTI people and can provide support in case of need.
By means of a badge that will identify the agents adhering to the project, the businesses and establishments that join “Pride of Commerce” will commit to offer a welcoming and inclusive environment for the LGBTI community, in addition to being prepared to provide support and guidance in the event of possible situations of discrimination or violence.
LGTBI Center Anniversary
The LGBTI Center will celebrate its 5th anniversary on May 18 with a big party open to the public. For the first time, part of the celebration will be moved to Plaça Catalunya with a stage and musical performances, as well as family activities in the morning.
Pride Barcelona
One of the big Pride events will take place in July, during the first two weeks, with the celebration of Pride. In addition to the great protest march scheduled for July 20, there will be concerts on Avenida Maria Cristina, Lluís Companys and in the Plaza de la Universitat from 18 to 21 of that month.
