Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has announced a special reinforcement plan for its train lines on June 9 and 10, coinciding with Pope Leo XIV’s historic visit to Barcelona and Montserrat.
At the same time, the Generalitat’s intercity bus network has announced significant disruptions to stops and routes on several lines connecting Barcelona with the rest of the region.
More than 40 new extra trips on FGC
On Tuesday, June 9, FGC will add 20 new trips on the Barcelona-Vallès line, specifically on the S1 (Terrassa) and S2 (Sabadell) services. On the Llobregat-Anoia line, 8 new trips will be added to the L8 (Molí Nou), and several regular trips on the R5 Manresa and R6 Igualada lines will increase their capacity with double-decker trains starting at 3:00 p.m. and continuing until the end of service.
On Wednesday, June 10, service will be expanded: between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., 8 new trips will be added to the Barcelona-Vallès line (S1 and S2), and between 8:00 p.m. and the end of service, 14 more trips will be added. On the Llobregat-Anoia line, 4 new trips will be added to the R5 (Manresa Baixador) between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and all lines will operate with double-car trains until the end of service.
Montserrat: access by prior reservation only
Pope Leo XIV’s pilgrimage to the Abbey of Montserrat on Wednesday, June 10, will have a special access system. Entry to the mountain will be exclusively via the Aeri or the Cremallera, and advance reservations will be required through the official website of the Abbey of Montserrat (abadiamontserrat.cat).
The Montserrat Rack Railway will offer three trains per hour between 5:55 a.m. and 7:35 p.m. FGC will also deploy additional security personnel and provide a special shuttle bus between the Aeri de Montserrat and Monistrol-Vila stations to facilitate transfers.

Intercity buses: changes to stops in Barcelona on June 9 and 10
The Generalitat’s intercity bus service will also be affected on both days. The main changes are:
- Alsina Graells:The lines that usually depart from Passeig de Gràcia, 36—the Lleida-Barcelona and Berga-Barcelona corridors—will move their departures toEstació del Nord. Arrivals in Barcelona remain unchanged. Affected lines include the L0101 (Lleida-Barcelona), L0415 (La Pobla de Segur-Barcelona), L0422 (La Seu d’Urgell-Barcelona), and L0131 (Solsona-Barcelona), among others.
- Empresa Plana:Routes originating in Tarragona and the Costa Daurada that previously departed from Pg. de Gràcia, 36, will now operate fromGran Via, 588.
- Sagalés:The stop at Pl. Tetuan, 24 is canceled. Departures and arrivals for the Caldes de Montbui-Barcelona corridor (lines L0127, L0128, L0197, L0199) will take place onAv. Meridiana.
- Autocars Julià:The L0110 Barcelona-Montserrat linewill not be in service on Tuesday, June 9.
FGC is calling on the public to use public transportation when traveling to events during the papal visit, with the aim of preventing road congestion caused by private vehicles and contributing to sustainable mobility and the reduction of pollutant emissions.
