The Raval celebrates its Festa Major from July 9 to 12 with a program that combines live music, community events, and a tapas route featuring 19 participating establishments, each offering a tapa and a drink for 5 euros. The celebration is organized by the Ciutat Vella District, the Raval Commercial Corridor, and the neighborhood’s merchants and residents.
The Tapas Route is one of the highlights of this year’s festivities, which will feature 11 stages scattered throughout the neighborhood’s streets and squares. For the first time, the route includes two venues from the Mercat de la Boqueria—l’Universal and Clemen’s Boqueria—expanding its scope to one of Ciutat Vella’s most renowned areas.
19 establishments, diverse cuisines
The complete list of participants in the tour includes Bar Atlanta, Bar El Toro, Fat Cat, La Prudència, Las Fernández, Nun Cultural Cafè, Chula Vista, El Magraner Boig, El Cafetí, La Ravala, La Monroe, Arume, La Morera, Bar Mendizábal, Dr. Beer & Mr. Fried, Biocenter, Bar Costa, Clemen’s Boqueria, and l’Universal. The variety of offerings ranges from traditional local cuisine to dishes inspired by the different cultures present in the neighborhood.
Beyond the culinary tour, the Festa Major includes free social and community events. On Friday at noon, Carrer Nou de la Rambla will host a free community paella to benefit the Associació d’Amics d’Arc del Teatre. In the evening, Carrer d’en Robadors will become a stage for African rhythms, Catalan rumba, and flamenco, while Bar La Cobra will feature a rock music lineup.
On Saturday at noon, a community botifarrada will be held on Carrer Nou de la Rambla to benefit the Raval Men’s and Women’s Soccer Club. At the same time, Carrer Riera Baixa will host a secondhand clothing market. In the evening, the program includes a carmanyola dinner and a gathering with the drag performers who entertained at Bar Marsella in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, as well as an evening dedicated to the cultures of Lebanon and Pakistan at the Nun Cultural Café on Carrer Lleó.
11 concert stages
Music will fill various spots throughout the neighborhood: rock on Carrer de la Verge at the Moebius Bar, Latin music at the Pantera Mambo, rap and graffiti workshops at Plaça Aureli Capmany, and electronic and hard techno at Plaça Blanquerna with Araña Club.
On Sunday, the Festa Major wraps up with a community paella starting at noon and music until 10 p.m. in Plaça Salvador Seguí, featuring a performance by Monroe.
Jordi Bordas, manager of the Eix Comercial del Raval, emphasized that the festivities reflect a desire to showcase “the neighborhood that comes alive during the popular festival—a neighborhood of residents who share a table, and of shopkeepers and restaurant owners who raise our shutters every day and build community.” Bordas noted that the Eix Comercial del Raval is part of the neighborhood’s Punts Liles network, meaning that all venues, bars, and spaces at the Festa Major will serve as safe havens against gender-based violence and LGBTIphobia.
