If you like animals and you want to see them in their natural natural habitat you have to visit the WildForest wildlife reserve in Aguilar de Segarra, less than an hour from Barcelona. It is one of the only centers in Spain that specializes in hunting wildlife, that is, species that, because they are considered game, cannot enter a wildlife rescue center.
Since 2015, more than 300 animals have been rescued and rehabilitated, of which 150 now live in the reserve. There you will find wild boars, deer, Vietnamese pigs, sheep, goats, mouflon and guanacos and also foxes. The reserve, which consists of 33 hectares, has only 17 hectares of fenced land and rotational grazing, which means that you will never find the animals in the same place.
Visits at 6 euros
Although the reserve has been open since 2015 less than a year ago it opened to the public, and now offers open days on Sundays for all ages These visits cost €6 and are free for children under 3 years old. Of course, you have to book in advance because the tickets sell out.
You will be able to respectfully share the space with the herd of sheep and goats that are grazing, as well as meet the rest of the animals and observe them up close. In addition, there is free play space, free workshops, creative corner, charity store and picnic space.
The WildForest Foundation offers education, training and environmental awareness programs for schools. School visits, ranging from i3 to high school, cover topics such as the impact of captivity on wildlife, the ecosystem, agriculture and knowledge of native wildlife.
If you want to go further, you have the opportunity to become a caregiver for a day, an unforgettable experience that will allow you to learn first-hand about the work of a rescue center.
There are also guided tours in small groups to visit the reserve’s habitats and learn more about the conservation of these species. It also explains how mascotism, wildlife feeding and roadkill affect them and how to do our bit to solve it.
