Tibidabo, that magical mountain that watches over Barcelona, is celebrating. And not just any celebration. Next Sunday, November 16, the amusement park puts on its best clothes to celebrate its traditional Fiesta Mayor. Coinciding with its 124th anniversary (which is soon to be said), the so-called “Cim de les Emocions” has prepared a special program where the usual attractions will share the limelight with the best of Catalan popular culture.
If you were looking for a different plan for Sunday, Tibidabo mixes tradition and adrenaline with the highest festival in the city.
Popular culture with a view of the city
The party is not only to climb the Avion, the Giradabo or scream on the roller coaster. This time, the park is full of tradition . The day will be full of popular culture that will take the main squares of the enclosure, demonstrating that the ‘gegants’ also know how to climb the mountain.
The program starts strong. At 11:30 am, the Geganters i Grallers de Palau-Solità i Plegamans will parade through the Plaça del Jardí. Shortly after, at 12:30h, it will be the turn of the Colles de Ball de Gitanes of the same municipality, who will perform in the Plaça dels Somnis. And to finish off the morning, at 13:00h, the Bastoners de Gràcia will take over in the same square.
Chocolate, puppets and an anniversary present
But, let’s be honest, what is a major party without a good chocolate? For the early risers (and those with a sweet tooth), the park has organized a popular chocolatada at 11:00 amin the Plaça dels Somnis. At the same time, for those who prefer to start calmly, there will be an animation of Muppets in the Àrea Panoràmica.
In the afternoon, the party continues. At 4:30 pm it will be the turn of the Tibidabo Mascots show at Plaça del Jardí. And to round off a great day, at 5:00 pm, the mythical Titelles Vergés will bring back a classic with the show El Retorn dels Polichinelas at Plaça dels Somnis.
124 years are not celebrated every day
This Fiesta Mayor serves to commemorate 124 years of life of the park, which officially opened its doors at the end of October 1901, consolidating its position as one of the oldest operating amusement parks in the world and an undisputed emblem of Barcelona.
To celebrate, Tibidabo has an extra treat beyond Sunday. During all remaining Sundays in November, access to the Miramiralls (the mythical and historic hall of mirrors) will be completely free for all park visitors. A golden opportunity to see yourself distorted and, incidentally, celebrate the living history of the city.
