The interchange connecting lines 4 and 5 of the Barcelona Metro at Verdaguer station will be closed from Monday, October 13, for a period of 12 months, due to works to improve its accessibility.
The main action will consist of replacing the existing stairs in the connecting corridor with ramps, thus eliminating architectural barriers. While the work is being carried out, users will have to transfer between the two lines on the above-ground section.
This alternative route will be signposted. Passengers arriving on L4 should exit at Passeig de Sant Joan and walk along Carrer Provença to the L5 metro station, located at the junction with Carrer Bailen.
Those coming from L5 will take the reverse route. The authorities have confirmed that no additional trip will be deducted when revalidating the ticket to complete the transfer.
These works, carried out by the Generalitat’s Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition, are part of the first phase of a project that began in early 2025.
In addition to the ramps, this phase includes the installation of three elevators: one from the street to the L5 concourse and two more to connect the L4 concourse with its platforms. The project also includes the elevation of the L4 platforms in both directions. The budget for this first phase is 8.6 million euros.
Once this intervention has been completed, the L4 station will be completely adapted. The total accessibility of the station will be completed with a second phase, the construction project for which is already being drafted.
This future action, valued at 19 million euros, will include the construction of new vestibules for both lines and the adaptation of the platforms on L5.
