Barcelona surpassed last Friday, for the first time in 2025, the 30 °C barrier and the strong of tropical nights begin to peek with the sunset. That’s why the people of Barcelona look for the shelter they can during the day, and hence the success of the newly opened Parc de les Glòries, where the water games have become an unexpected salvation from the heat.
They are in the Gran Clariana, and are part of the four new water games that have been installed this summer in Barcelona. Like all the others, these fountains are not proper swimming pools, but water games with timer where children and adults can cool off.
They work with drinking water and are equipped with a button that allows responsible water use. A cycle of games cannot be started until the next one begins and the fountains operate during limited hours: from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and will be active until September,
A forbidden fountain turned into a makeshift swimming pool
In addition to these games, the reform of the Clariana has left an unexpected “pool”. It is the “Mirall d’Aigua”, a fountain with the prohibited bathing that has become, however, in a bathing area for children, who have found in its delicate water surface a perfect game to combat the heat.
Betevé explained it in this report and we went to check it ourselves, the fountain is a makeshift pool and, although the council has spoken out against such use, popular opinion is, for the moment, the one that rules.
