As every August, Barcelona is getting ready for the the subject of the works to take advantage of the apparent calm of the city during the summer to reform its streets. And although in the city of 20 million annual tourists there is no calm or quiet months , August 2024 will be the month of paving works (and subway) in the city.
Beyond the major works that are reshaping the face of Barcelona, several asphalt refurbishment works are being carried out this summer on major streets, in a plan to renew up to 100,000 square meters of pavement in the city to make it more sustainable and efficient . We tell you which are the most relevant and how they affect you.
Sants and Creu Coberta Streets
The paving works in the streets of Sants and Creu Coberta began on August 3 and 4. This project covers an area of 23,481 square meters from Avinguda de Madrid to Plaça Espanya. These streets are important arteries in the city and the works have generated temporary changes in traffic and mobility.
Diagonal Avenue
Between August 6 and 14, works are being carried out on Avenida Diagonal, specifically in the section between Plaza de Francesc Macià and Avenida Doctor Marañón. This intervention affects 56,000 square meters and, most importantly, has involved the elimination of the reversible lane, which has caused traffic disruptions.
The paving is being done in phases to minimize impact, but has still caused traffic congestion and detours. Bus lines affected include 6, 7, 33, 34, 63, 67, 101 BBT and V9, among others
Via Favència
The works on Via Favència will be carried out between August 10 and 11, affecting the section between Via Júlia and Karl Marx square. During the works, detours have been implemented to minimize the impact on local traffic.
During these days, the road will be closed in the Llobregat direction, with detours through alternative streets such as Aiguablava, Torres, Artesanía and Antonio Machado. In addition, affected bus lines include D40, V27, 60, 47, 47, 185, 122, 127, 127, 134, V29 and 135
Mons Square
In the neighborhood of Vallcarca i els Penitents , Mons square is undergoing paving works between August 5 and 14. The roadway pavers are being replaced with asphalt agglomerate, which will improve the durability and safety of the surface.
