Barcelona is going on vacation in the coming months and the City Council has announced a plan with about forty interventions, i.e. works, in the public space. From the subway to the simplest re-asphalting, the consistory will invest about 30.2 million euros in the network of streets and subway stations of the city.
From this June until September, more than 40 actions will be carried out, coordinated by the new Works and Mobility Commission.
Works in the Barcelona metro
One of the main actions will take place in the metro, with the extension of L8, the partial cutting of L4 and works in stations on L9 and L10. Some of these works will be:
- Line 9/10: From June 29, works will begin on the future Manuel Girona station, which will involve cuts in Doctor Ferran street. First the two lanes on the Besòs side will be closed, and from August 4 the entire roadway and sidewalk on the Llobregat side will be occupied.
- Line 8 (FGC): On August 10, a section of Muntaner street (between Laforja and Marià Cubí) will be closed to traffic for thirteen months to build an emergency exit. In December, the closure will be extended to Avenir street. To mitigate the impact, on July 27 the direction of Carrer Amigó will be changed and, from August 8, the capacity of Via Augusta will be increased to two lanes in each direction.
- L4 will undergo partial cuts to renew 6 km of track, already deteriorated by use.
Road works
The redevelopment and improvement of public space will be another of the points with great activity of machines and operators under the Barcelona sun.
One of the most ambitious interventions will be the new phase of the covering of the Dalt ring road, between Vallcarca Avenue and IES Vall d’Hebron. This work, in addition to the section already executed, will cover a total of 540 meters.
From July 14 to September 4, the two right lanes in each direction will be closed, and night closures are planned during assembly and disassembly.
Other relevant urban actions include the partial occupation of Balmes street, between late July and early August; the redevelopment of Meridiana avenue, where one lane will be occupied in each direction between Felip II and Fabra i Puig; the change of circulation in the Rambla; and works in the Vallcarca service ring, at the intersection of Farigola and Mare de Déu del Coll.
As part of Pla Endreça, the summer months will be used to carry out seven major paving works, which will affect some 37,000 square meters of roadway. The interventions will be concentrated in:
- Calle Pi i Margall
- Gran via de Carles III
- Via Augusta
- Passeig Mare de Déu del Coll
- Ciutat d’Asunción Street
- Pont del Treball Digne Street
- Passeig de la Vall d’Hebron
Also planned are works to improve drinking water networks and renovation of street lighting, to guarantee the quality of basic services throughout the city.
