That the Barcelona metro has big plans for the future is no secret. From a 50-kilometer-long line to the new Sagrera interchange that will revolutionize mobility in the city.
But, in addition , the metro network is pending many other ways to grow, some already projected, others desired and some, simply, possible, but all of them options that allow us to imagine the metro of the future.
Therefore, we show you here all the new stops that will have the subway of tomorrow, so you can go projecting the appearance of Barcelona in a few years.
What are the metro stops of the future?
It’s been more than two decades since the Pla Director d’Infraestructures (PDI), designed by the Autoritat del Transport Metropolità (ATM), outlined what the metro of the future would be like. And although the first plans were very ambitious (with many new features before 2010), successive delays, crises or unforeseen events have shown that this was not possible.
Even so, the foundations were laid, and the advances in line 9 and other projects underway allow us to imagine how this future will be reached. Therefore, we tell you here some of the future metro stops in Barcelona..
Line 1 (red)
- Fondo-Badalona extension Five new stations will be added: Montigalà, Lloreda | Sant Crist, Bufalà, Badalona Pompeu Fabra and Badalona. The works are scheduled to begin in 2025 and be completed in 2031.
- Bellvitge-El Prat extension: It is planned to extend the route to El Prat Estació, connecting with the L9 station. There is no start date for these works as yet.
Line 2 (Lila)
- Sant Antoni-Parc Logístic Extension: The line will go into Montjuïc, with new stations such as Montjuïc and Foixarda, which would allow something unprecedented, connecting the center with the Prat Vermell Marina. Construction is expected to begin after 2030.
Line 3 (Green)
- University Zone-Sant Feliu Extension: Stations such as Finestrelles | Sant Joan de Déu, Pont d’Esplugues, and Sant Feliu, among others, will be added.
- Green Line 3 (Green)
- *Trinitat Nova-Trinitat Vella connection: The construction project is expected to be ready by 2026.
Line 4 (Yellow)
- La Pau-La Sagrera extension: Santander and Estació de la Sagrera stations will be included.
Line 9 (Orange)
- University Zone-La Sagrera Extension: It will open in three phases, including stations such as Lesseps, Guinardó, and Sagrera-TAV. The line will become the longest in the city, with 50 kilometers and 50 stations, and is expected to be complete by 2027.
Line 10 (Blue)
- Pratenc-Zona Universitaria extension: The Camp Nou station will open in 2027, and the Motors and Pratenc stations will remain pending.
