With less than a week to go before the first total solar eclipse in the last 120 years, the entire country is eager to find the best place to view it, find out what the weather will be like, and—for those who haven’t thought ahead—get certified eclipse glasses so they can enjoy it safely.
Faced with the flood of visitors and locals interested in the astronomical phenomenon of the century, the La Molina and Vall de Núria ski resorts have organized special events packed with activities for viewing the eclipse at various observation points.
A special day that promises to be even more memorable when accompanied by good food, musical performances, and breathtaking views from the continent’s most impressive mountain range.
Food and Music in La Molina
The La Molina mountain resort is offering a unique experience to enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime event: a gondola ride with views of the Pyrenees, accompanied by live music, vermouth, and mountain cuisine. The musical entertainment will be provided by saxophonist Xesco Bruno and the group Mountains of Music.
To enjoy the eclipse at an altitude of over 2,500 meters, you must make a reservation on their website by August 10 or until spots are filled. The organizers will distribute certified eclipse glasses to all attendees free of charge.
Vall de Núria: a cable car ride and views from over 2,000 meters above sea level
Guests staying at the Hotel Vall de Núria and the Vall de Núria Hostel will be able to participate in a group viewing of the eclipse from the hostel’s esplanade, located at an altitude of over 2,000 meters and accessible only via the Coma del Clot cable car.
Anyone interested in participating must make a reservation through the official Vall de Núria website and will receive free protective glasses. If you’re ultimately unable to make it to any of the viewing spots, the Montsec Astronomical Park and the Ebro Observatory will broadcast the eclipse in real time via their official YouTube channels.
