Barcelona has already flipped the mental Christmas switch. The City Council has presented the device of the lights for the season 2025-2026, and the thing comes loaded with novelties. Get your cell phone camera ready, because the city will have 126 kilometers of illuminated streets under the model “Barcelona Llums de Nadal”, which seeks to consolidate the city as an international benchmark for this holiday season.
The key dates are already here: the lighting will run from its switch-on on Saturday, November 22 until the traditional Three Kings Day, January 6, 2026. But beyond the calendar, the big news this year is the commitment to signature design in the main arteries.
When will the 2025 Christmas lights be switched on in Barcelona?
Take note of the most important date: Saturday, November 22 will be the big Christmas 2025 lights switch-on event. As in previous years, the inaugural show will take place on Passeig de Gràcia, predictably around 6:30 pm, kicking off more than a month of light.
This year, the inauguration has been brought forward a few days for scheduling reasons, so Christmas will be lit earlier than ever in the city. Check all the details of the lighting ceremony in Passeig de Gràcia in our article.
What are the days and times of the Christmas lighting in Barcelona?

From the official lighting in Passeig de Gràcia, the Christmas lights will be on from November 22 until the dawn of Epiphany, January 6, 2026.
During these days, the schedules of the lights (which work 100% with LED technology to control consumption) are consolidated and extended compared to years of restrictions:
- Sunday to Thursday: from 17:30h to 1:00h.
- Fridays and Saturdays: from 17:30h to 2:00h.
- Special nights (December 24, 25 and 31, and January 5): extended hours until 2:00h.
The big premiere: Via Laietana recovers its Christmas lights.

No more repeating the same design year after year in the center. This year, the City Council has made a strong commitment to local talent through a competition of ideas promoted together with ADI-FAD (the Industrial Design Association). The result? Five new installations signed by prestigious studios and designers that are going to be the talk of the town.
The one that generates most expectation is undoubtedly the one on Via Laietana, which will be illuminated for the first time after its long (very long) renovation. The design will be in charge of Esther Pujol (Nahtrang Studio) and Martà Cerdà.
But keep an eye on the other major thoroughfares as well:
- Plaça Catalunya (design by ARTEC)
- Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes (design by APO)
- Aragó Street (design by SMLXL + MA-MA)
For fans of Brosmind’s design, which last year surprised in Passeig de Sant Joan, good news: its proposal, inspired by manga and comics, repeats this year.
Thematic routes

The City Council has announced the creation of five thematic routes through different light installations that will allow visitors to tour different lighting sets.
The routes are Llum i aigua, Monuments il-luminats, Mercats municipals, Comerç de proximitat i Façanes d’hotels, and will be published soon on the Barcelona City Council Christmas lights website.
Beyond the center: lights in the neighborhoods and even in the Olympic Port
The municipal plan does not want to leave anyone in the dark. The lighting will reach all districts, prioritizing less central areas with “totems” and Christmas structures (there will be more than twenty).
In addition, special attention will be paid to 23 streets affected by long-term works (in districts such as Ciutat Vella, Gràcia, Sant Martí or Eixample) to help the commercial fabric, which is sorely needed.
As is already a tradition, the facades of the 39 municipal markets will be dressed up for a party. But that’s not all: this year more than thirty ornamental fountains of the city and, for the first time, the Mestral and Gregal docks of the new Port Olímpic will join the spectacle.
So that no one misses a single sparkle (and to organize the Instagram route), the City Council will publish a detailed map with all the locations on the Christmas website.
Els Llums de Sant Pau: An immersive journey under the ‘Somni Borealis’ ✨.

The magic of Christmas lights up at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, which celebrates its fifth anniversary transformed into a universe of light. Forget the urban hustle and bustle and enter a completely renovated luminous tour. This year, the experience is totally immersive thanks to the 18 interactive installations and the big star: the Somni Borealis, which recreates the captivating northern lights without leaving Barcelona.
In addition, children have a crucial mission: to leave their letter at King Balthazar’s Royal Camp. It is the perfect plan to disconnect and live a fairytale Christmas.
Nadal al Port, the fair of Christmas lights in front of the sea

The ‘Nadal al Port’ is back bigger than ever. From November 28, enjoy the Christmas fair at the port with free admission, a giant Ferris wheel and ice rink. The great novelty: the Golondrinas will make night walks for the first time in history.
The Christmas Swallows: night-time rides with boats full of lights.

A historic plan in the port! For the first time in 137 years, Las Golondrinas will make night routes to see the illuminated ‘Nadal al Port’, on boats that, in turn, will be covered with Christmas lights.... From November 28, enjoy a 40-minute ride with music, lights and actors on board.
