After the last rains, which have left a somewhat kinder climate in the city, summer is already looming large, with nights starting to become torrid and calling for fans hooked up to the bed. To combat this extreme heat during the day , the City Council is once again activating this summer an extensive network of more than 350 weather shelters that will help citizens to find shelter nearby.
Climatic shelters are spaces where you can protect yourself from the heat during the summer and from the cold during the winter. Most of them are open all year round, and this summer the network has been increased by 120 spaces, with the idea that any Barcelona resident should have one close by.
According to the consistory, climate shelters should be accessible spaces with shade, sitting areas and water point. Excessive and sustained heat increases mortality and health problems, especially among the elderly, infants, people with chronic diseases or with few resources, and the climate crisis leads to more and more heat waves and of greater intensity.
This year, the pools will also be climatic shelters open to the public at with popular prices to make them accessible to everyone.
You can consult the complete network of climate shelters on the map that has been activated by the consistory. Pla Calor” will remain active until September 15.
