Traveling with our pet can become a real odyssey. In many places they are still not accepted and we often choose to go by car or leave them with someone else while we travel. Fortunately, this is changing more and more and various airlines, railways and other transport companies are making it easier for users to travel with their dogs.
The latest to join has been Renfe, which already allowed dogs on some of its routes, but now, after renewing its contract with Nestlé Purina, the company’s advisors in terms of pet friendly policy, has expanded the routes on which travelers can be accompanied by their pets.
Therefore, from today dogs up to 40kg can travel on all stops on the Madrid-Barcelona line, including those that stop at Zaragoza, Lleida Pirineus and Camp de Tarragona. In addition, the route from Barcelona to Figueres-Vilafant, passing through Girona, will also be pet friendly from today.
Conditions for traveling with your dog
To be able to travel with your dog on the AVE, several conditions must be met. Each passenger may travel with a maximum of one large dog of up to 40kg and a maximum of two dogs of this type may travel on each train. They must travel in the same carriage and in a fixed space with two specific seats. That is to say, they will not be able to travel in any part of the train, but they will have an area reserved for them.
On the other hand, dogs and pets under 10kg will still be able to travel in a carrier in any part of the train, regardless of the number of large dogs.
