The rua blaugrana for the Barça men’s titles flooded the city this weekend, but Barcelona is already preparing for another possible celebration. The City Council has announced the installation of a giant screen in the newly opened Glòries Park to follow Barça live in the final of the Women’s Champions League.
The event will take place this Saturday, May 24 at 18h, and will face FC Barcelona and Arsenal in Lisbon. It will be the occasion to see a historic milestone: If the azulgranas win, they will lift their third consecutive Champions League title, reaffirming their dominance in European soccer.
This is not the first time Barcelona has celebrated major sporting achievements in this way. In 2023, thousands of people gathered in front of screens set up in Plaça Catalunya to watch the final of the women’s Champions League– also won by Barça – and the victory of the Spanish national team in the men’s European Championship. That same summer, the Centre Esportiu Municipal Olímpics Vall d’Hebron hosted the broadcasting of the women’s World Cup final, in which Spain was proclaimed world champion.
The broadcasting in a public space is part, according to the city council, of the city’s strategy to position itself as a global benchmark for women’s sports and to promote the visibility of these competitions.
Champion’s parade in Plaça Espanya
Although details have not yet been confirmed, it is expected that, if the team wins the final, FC Barcelona will stage a champions’ parade to celebrate the title in Plaça Espanya on Sunday 25. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
