Barcelona’s network of bike lanes continues to grow and after the strong boost it received in the previous term of office now the City Council has announced the construction of 12 kilometers of new bike lanes by 2027 that will add to the 268 km. that the network currently has.
In addition, the consistory plans to transfer 9.3 km that are currently on the sidewalk to the road, converting them into segregated lanes that will increase their effectiveness.

New bike lanes in Barcelona
The City Council has announced the complete list of new bike lanes or those that will be moved to the road to segregate them.
- Montjuïc: Construction of a 6.6 km bi-directional bike lane connecting Font Màgica with Poble-sec.
- Avenida Diagonal (Glòries – Fòrum): Adaptation of the bicycle lane in this section of the Sant Martí district, lowering it from the sidewalk to the roadway.
- Passeig de Joan de Borbó and Via Laietana: Extension of 160 meters of the bi-directional lane on Joan de Borbó and adaptation of 320 meters to the roadway.
- Passeig de Gràcia: Construction of 75 meters of lane between Diagonal and Carrer Bonavista, improving the connection with Gràcia.
- Carrer de Badajoz: New 1.6 km lane between Avinguda d’Icària and Plaça de les Glòries.
- Diagonal Avenue (Esplugues – Albert Bastardas): Creation of a bidirectional lane of 565 meters to improve the connection with Esplugues de Llobregat.
- Passeig de Santa Coloma: Adaptation of 580 meters of sidewalk lane to roadway in Sant Andreu.
- Carrer de Concepción Arenal: Construction of a 550 meter bi-directional lane between Felip II and Fabra i Puig.
- Carrer d’Escòcia: New 600-meter lane to connect Vilapicina, Torre Llobeta, Congrés, Indians and La Sagrera.
- Carrer de Fernando Pessoa: Creation of a 920-meter lane in Sant Andreu.
- Carrer de la Marina: Replacement of 450 meters of sidewalk lanes with one lane on the roadway between Ausiàs Marc and Diputació.
- Carrer de Provença: Improvement of the 230-meter bidirectional lane between Sardenya and Lepant, in Sagrada Familia.
- Avenida Meridiana: Construction of a bidirectional lane of 1,140 meters between Felip II and Fabra i Puig.
- Ronda Guinardó: Construction of a 390-meter bidirectional lane between Vinyals and Torre dels Pardals.
- Travessera de les Corts: New 760-meter lane between Gran Via de Carles III and Aristides Maillol.
- Passeig de Valldaura: Transformation of 900 meters of sidewalk lane to roadway between Plaça de la República and Avinguda Meridiana.
- Carrer de Viriat: Creation of a 510-meter lane around Sants station.
What important bike lanes are still to be built?
This extensive list includes some long-awaited projects that, for various reasons, have been postponed and excluded from this planning.
Some long-awaited projects, such as the Plaça Catalunya bike lane, will have to wait for the reform of the Rambla and the future remodeling of the square.
The bike lane along the Ronda del Port, which will connect the Zona Franca with the city center,has also been postponed.
