After more than 20 years closed to the public, the mysterious abandoned palace in the Laberint d’Horta park reopens its doors. The Marquès d’Alfarràs Palace, also known as Desvalls Palace, is one of those hidden treasures of Barcelona that seem to be taken out of a Gothic novel. And now, for the first time ever, you can enter and tour it for free.
Located inside the Laberint d’Horta park, this century-old building has its origins in the 11th century, when it was nothing more than a watchtower. Over time, it grew and transformed into a stately palace surrounded by romantic gardens. In 1968 it became the property of the City Council and since 1993 it has housed, in part, the Labyrinth Training Center, dedicated to gardening, agriculture and biodiversity workshops.
But only in part. Most of the building was never open to the public and since its definitive closure in 1993, the palace has never been open to visitors, until now.
How to visit the Maqués d’Alfarràs Palace
After the rehabilitation of the building, the Municipal Institute of Parks and Gardens has launched a program of free guided tours so that the people of Barcelona can rediscover this forgotten corner of the local heritage.
The visits are free, but prior registration is required. They are organized in groups and with a guide, in order to preserve the space and guarantee a complete experience. You can reserve your place through the City Hall website or the Institut Municipal de Parcs i Jardins.
