Going outside with children when it’s raining, very cold or extremely hot can be a real ordeal. End up with wet clothes, soaked with sweat, or spending hours in a cITY PARK in these weather conditions is not pleasant for anyone.
That’s why we offer you some alternatives to crafts, homemade pizzas or muffins with secret ingredients that only kids will know. Indoor plans so that rainy days won’t be boring or monotonous. Here are some options we recommend:
Toy libraries
Barcelona has a network of public toy libraries play areas with educational and recreational proposals. There are more than 18 proposals and some of the best known are the Arimel, in Carmel, the Ludoteca La Verneda, or the Ludoteca Casa Bloc in Sant Andreu.
There are also private ones. El Cau is one of the busiest. Located in the heart of Barcelona’s Eixample (c/Villarroel 237), it has more than 200 square meters with corridors, ramps, fabrics and toys. Another free play option is Mamá Canguro , which is located in the Gracia neighborhood (C/Sant Salvador 117) and takes the form of little houses that invite the little ones to get ready for symbolic play. In the heart of the Sarrià neighborhood (C/Santaló 130) we find Peek a Boo, a space where numerous activities and workshops are organized, and even birthday parties.
Bubble Planet
Interactive exhibits such as Bubble Planet allow you to have a good time while interacting with the environment. It has many rooms, focused on all types of audiences, with specific proposals for children. Among them is a pool with giant balls, which simulates a bathtub, a room full of latex balloons, a maze of lights or a craft booth where you can paint a drawing that is projected on a screen.
It is a sensory experience that appeals to both adults and children and allows you to take a break from your weekday routine for a while. It is also a very good indoor plan for when it rains.
Museums
Visiting museums in the city on rainy or extremely hot days is also a good plan. One of the most familiar is the Museu de les Ciències Naturals, but there are also the CaixaFòrum, the Cosmo Caixa, the Museu de Cera, the Museu de la Xocolata, the Museu Marítim or the Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya.
Barcelona has a very varied and affordable cultural offer to bring culture closer to everyone. In addition, if it coincides with the first Sunday of the month, the tickets for some museums will be completely free of charge.
Libraries
Most of the libraries in Barcelona have a dynamic children’s section with activities, workshops and storytelling proposals. Among the activities, it is worth mentioning the proposal called Aperitius musicals for ages four and up, which develop the creativity of the youngest children through auditions. Among the best libraries with a children’s area are the Gabriel García Marquez the Jaume Fuster Library, the Library of the Sagrada Familia or the Agustí Centelles Library.
Jumping Yards
One of the star plans for ages 6 and up when it rains. The Jumping Yards become playful spaces in which to jump and discharge aggressive energy while having a great time. Among the best known are The Indoor Jumping Club, Jumping Extreme Barcelona and JumpYard Barcelona, in Cornellà. If the children are a little younger (from 3 to 12 years old) the Monsters Jümp, in Esplugues de Llobregat, is your ideal plan.
Inflatable playgrounds
The parks with inflatables or ball pools are always a guaranteed plan. However, be careful when it rains because that is when they are most crowded. The best known in Barcelona are Planeta Màgic, in Viladomat Street and also in Sagrada Familia and Aventura Park, in Av. de Roma and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes. For the little ones, Kidland, in Sant Boi de Llobregat, is also a very good option.
Barcelona Aquarium
A proposal to see up close the different animals found in tropical waters as well as in the Mediterráneo. The ticket is free for children under two years of age, lasts at least two hours and with it you can stay in the facilities as long as you want within the same day of visit. The little ones love the shark walkway, seeing their teeth up close and learning what they eat each day.
Salt Cave
It is a therapeutic and playful space that allows you to feel the benefits of salt in the body. Salsana, in Puigcerdà street in Barcelona, is a good plan for the whole family even when it rains outside. For the little ones, it allows them to experiment with salt and have a good time doing halotherapy, i.e. breathing an environment saturated by salt mithroparticles of mineral origin, totally natural.
