To say that doughnuts are an American invention would be to turn our backs on the gastronomic culture of half the world. Perhaps the Anglo-Saxon country popularized a version of this succulent doughnut, but there are many countries with cousin variants. In Portugal it has boulinhas; in Canada, persians; in northern India, balushahi; in Germany, berliners; in Israel, sufganiyot; in France, crullers; in Italy, bomboloni; and in your house, grandma’s doughnuts.
Although I can already hear the laments of gastronomic purism:“isi ni sin dinits, isi sin risquillis“. Well, yeah, call it what you will, but the product itself, the Yankee one, the one that the rest of the world has replicated, is called doughnut. Later, the term was wisely adapted to the national market by the brand we all know, and that is how donut became the generic term for that spongy and glazed donut. The ones without holes and filled are called berliners. I call them donuts without holes.
But forget about terminological discussions and let yourselves be sweetened. Here are our favorite donuts from Barcelona.
La Donutería
Possibly the most gourmet flavored donuts we’ve ever tasted. La Donutería, located in the Sant Antoni neighborhood, is a temple where each donut looks like a signature dish. The one in the photo, for example, is dulce de leche with toasted almonds, cocoa crumbs and Maldon salt.

Demasié
Putting Demasié on this list is tricky and technically cheating, but you’ll thank us for it. They specialize in cinnamon rolls or cinnamon rolls, and they have them in a myriad of flavors and, truth be told, they look more like an elaborate donut than the classic cinnamon roll. But in fact, they also make doughnuts, and have the same delicious elaborations as their cinnamon rolls, so there’s no chance of failure with either.

Boldú
Again, delicious and multi-flavored donuts, but in this case Boldú varies the shape, which is no longer the classic circular shape, but the shape of the doll of its brand image. And it has no less than nine locations in Barcelona. One of the first bakeries to specialize in signature donuts in the city.
📍 Various locations
Lukumás
At the moment they have two locations, one in Gràcia (Torrent de l’Olla, 169) and another in Raval And the best thing is that, in addition to good donuts, they have a delicious specialty coffee. Two for one in reasons to visit them.
📍C/ Torrent de l’Olla, 169 – C/ Valldonzella, 36
Chök
Chök’s strength is its emphasis on vegan products, reduced sugar and natural ingredients. They have three stores in Barcelona and another one in Llobregat(you can find their locations here) and they incorporate to the donut that wonderful hybrid, son of mom croissant and dad donut, which is the donut.

Dunkin Coffee
The most obvious door, perhaps, but also the ticket for many to enter the donut world for the first time. The great American chain that brought those pierced delicacies to Barcelona, and where so many have had a giant coffee with a hyper-sweetened donut.
