Closure of a century-old Sant Andreu… and find a replacement right away. In an example of how they work the dynamics of the city a century-old venue in Barcelona has gone through all the phases in less than two weeks.
The Versailles, a neighborhood icon born in 1915, survivor of a civil war and a pandemic, announced a week and a half ago, 109 years after opening, that it was time to lower the shutters, pressured by the 10,000 euros a month rent it had to pay.
According to what the owner of the premises, Carles Riera, told Betevé on May 31, the Versailles, in the heart of Sant Andreu, could not afford this rent, despite having renewed its offer to adapt it to the neighbors and the changes.
A new life in the form of a brasserie
However, the closure of the Versailles has brought with it news of a reopening at the same location. It has been from the group La Madurada, a steak restaurant in Horta designed for the residents of the neighborhood, which will open a branch of its brasserie in the mythical premises of Sant Andreu.
The idea, as explained by La Madurada, is “to create a neighborhood restaurant for the neighborhood, in both cases adapting to the previous location, an icon of the neighborhood and the city,” which will open in November.
Thus, Versalles will become a brasserie specializing in meats with a complementary proposal of cheeks croquettes, bread with tomato, steak tartar, beef sirloin carpaccio or picanha, also with some grilled vegetables and fish.
