The Colombian community in Barcelona is smart. Without making much noise (there are other much better known networks) it has woven a small network of delicious Colombian food restaurants around the city that stays slightly under the radar, out of the spotlight, thus assuring those who know where to direct their steps to get that craving for a bandeja paisa, arepa or empanada that sometimes grabs anyone who misses the food of their homeland.
The list of those cravings is endless. Sancocho, ajiaco, tamales, ribs, simple salchipapas or even a good pandebonos or almojábanas bought warm in a Colombian bakery. A whole menu of whims that this list with the best Colombian restaurants in Barcelona that we leave you here is going to solve for you so that you know perfectly where to go the next time you feel like a good “corrientazo”.
La Traga
Colombian street food is enjoyed at La Traga, a place in Sants that specializes in fast, simple and cheap Colombian dishes. They work with local suppliers, the bacon is handmade and smoked, the pulled pork is cooked for hours, and the vegetables are chosen one by one so that everything is always fresh.
“Nothing improvised. Here you eat well or you don’t eat at all,” they say. Hamburgers, hot dogs, salchipapas and arepas for about 10-12 euros.
📍 Location: C/ Ventura Plaja 7, 08028.
Mi Tierra
Corrientazo is a Colombian concept that defines the South American country’s equivalent of our menu restaurant. And this is Mi Tierra, first and foremost, a restaurant in Sant Antoni where a quick and hearty menu of authentic Colombian food is served. To start always an ajiaco, a sancocho or some other soup, and to follow, the usual platters: sobrebarriga, steak with onions, sea bream or, of course, a paisa platter with everything you see.
📍Location: Carrer del Comte d’Urgell, 76 – Carrer de Torns, 17 – 934 40 71 21.
My Corner
Little corner on Diagonal in a semi-basement serving all the good things from the country with coastline on both oceans. Arepas con chorizo, patacón hogao, papa rellena, empanadas cicharrón, tajadas de maduro and all the creole food recipes you can imagine. Recommended by our trusted Colombian advisors in Barcelona. They also serve lunch menu.
📍Location: Av. Diagonal, 303, bajo 2, Eixample, 08013.
La Fonda Paisa
Reading the menu of La Fonda Paisa makes you crave everything and that can only be a good sign. This restaurant in the Eixample has a part of the menu reserved for typical dishes, where the Bandeja paisa, the lengua en salsa, the sobre barriga or the hígado encebollado appear, and as often happens in this type of restaurants, all of them can be accompanied with the soup of the day and turn it into a great menu of the day for less than 15 euros.
📍Location: 332 Avinguda Diagonal Esquina, C/ de Sicília.
Tropicalissima
Tropicalissima’s aesthetics may not be the most appealing at first, and may, in fact, not make us think of Colombian food, but, rather, of juices and smoothies. And indeed, Tropicalissima sells juices, smoothies and its star dishes, fruit salads and ice cream.
But this restaurant also has a menu of huge portions of traditional Colombian food (bandeja paisa, arepas, patacones and even roasted chicken. A fast food section with hamburgers, hot dogs, arepa and combined dishes accompanied by arepa and fries.
📍Location: Gran via 482 L1 Rocafort BCN 08025 – C/Unio 34 L1 L1 L’Hospitalet 08902.
El arepazo
The name says it all. Specializing in arepas, the star is this corn flour dough of shared nationality (Colombian, Venezuelan…?) that here shines with the star of the menu, the triphasic a beast of chicken, meat and cheese that only opens the way to the egg, chicken, mixed, rib ….
But in addition, there are also dishes. Sancocho, beans, plantains covered with toppings, the traditional bandeja paisa or the calentado and, of course, empanada or salchipapas. In short, a Colombian restaurant with a complete menu so that nothing is missing.7
📍Location: C. de Cartagena, 264, Eixample.
Bread and Flavor
If you haven’t discovered Colombian bakeries yet, you’re already late. Colombia’s mastery of dough is almost greater than its cuisine, and the showcases of these Latin bakeries are a showcase of talent. From pandenbono, that yucca bread with cheese or almojabanas to empanadas, tamales, sweet roscones? In short, whether sweet or savory, everything you try will be delicious. Accompany it with a juice and your snack will be a glory.
Pan y Sabor is just one of the bakeries of this type in the city (yes, one of the oldest and most widespread, with several locations), but we encourage you to discover all that there are in Barcelona and decide your favorite as you decide your favorite croissant.
📍 Location: C/ d’Aragó, 451, L’Eixample-
