This summer, the city of Barcelona has doubled the number of children’s areas with water games, where bathing is allowed. This nuance is important, because on more than one occasion in recent weeks, Ajuntament de Barcelona has had to close fountains that had become improvised bathing areas, such as Mirall d’Aigua.
This 2025, Barcelona has gone from 4 to 8 authorized water zones. These zones allow children to cool off during the hottest hours of the day, with operating hours ranging from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The initiative is part of Pla Clima, a set of measures aimed at adapting the city to rising temperatures and encouraging the use of public space for children’s play.
In addition, the water games are designed for responsible use, with a push-button activation system that prevents the start of a new cycle until the previous one is finished. In addition, unlike other fountains not designed for bathing, these do have drinking water.
Where are the fountains with water games in Barcelona?

The new spaces enabled this year are located in:
- Environs of the Casa de l’Aigua, in Trinitat Vella.
- Gardens of Sant Joan de Déu, at L’Illa Diagonal
- Parc de les Glòries, Clariana.
- Plaça del Maresme
- Juan Ramón Jiménez Street, in Canyelles
- Parc de les Rieres d’Horta
- Parc del Canòdrom
- Plaça de la Lluita per les Llibertats, at Bon Pastor
The City Council reminds that the children’s play areas with water are the only ones authorized for refreshment and that it is forbidden to bathe or access the ornamental fountains of the city, a behavior that can lead to sanctions.
