We love sandwiches, are good, they are usually cheap and we can eat them anywhere, and if they are accompanied with a good beer, they taste even better. And although there are iconic ones -the lomoqueso, tuna with peppers…- there is one that, for some years now, has been fighting to become a new benchmark in Spanish snacking: the Paquito.
But, what exactly is a Paquito? The answer is very simple: if the Pepito is the iconic veal sandwich, the Paquito is lamb. And the best way to know it first hand is the Paquito Route, a route that since June 6 is in force for a month in a dozen restaurants in Barcelona that will offer their version of this new sandwich.
The Paquito Route is an initiative promoted by INTEROVIC, the Interprofessional Agroalimentary Interprofessional of Sheep and Goat Meat, and will take place not only in Barcelona but also in Lleida, Madrid, Valencia, Valladolid, Zamora and León, with more than 100 establishments offering their particular Paquitos.
In Catalonia, Insolent, Rooster&Bubbles, De Paula, Teleféric, Madre Taberna Moderna, Barna Brew Born, Contracorrent, Sal de Mar and Bodega Montferry in Barcelona; and in Tremp, Lérida: Cuina Ester, Casa Badia, Restaurant les Vidrieres, Cafè d’Espanya, Tapes i Vins, Hostal restaurant, Buenos Aires, Cal Borrell.
You can find all the versions that are prepared close to your home in the paquito’s Route website.
