When people tell me that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, we always think of the afternoon snack. The snack has always been the bastard child of our daily intakes, the least valued, least talked about, but most enjoyed .
And now that the brunch is claimed as a revolution of the meal between meals, it is time to claim the snack, which is not posted on Instagram, but shared with grandma; which is not ordered in English, but in the window of a forn, which is not done in a hangover morning, but in an afternoon of walk through the city center.
La Donutería (and other donuts in town)
In Sant Antoni you will find this small temple of the donut. Their creations are bursting with color and flavor and every day you can find a new flavor. Our favorite plan: a couple of donuts, a coffee (if not made by themselves, the next door Café Cometa also has very good coffee) and a snack in the fresh air of the neighborhood’s chamfered corners.
And if you still want more, here you go the best donuts in Barcelona.

Churros with chocolate in Petritxol street
Few things are more Barcelona-like than an afternoon stroll along Petritxol street in search of a hot chocolate with churros . The city’s chocolate street is the epitome of snacking the place where, historically, the people of Barcelona have gone to spend the afternoon with something sweet in their hands.
We are not going to be less, so we recommend that you visit one of its chocolate shops to come out of there having regained faith in humanity (and in the snack).
Sil’s Cakes
This pastry shop in the Gràcia district is known for its American pastries. From their huge and delicious cookies, to their cinnamon rolls or their cakes. A visual spectacle that does not disappoint the palate either.
📍 Carrer del Torrent de l’Olla, 62
Mistral
We can say little about Mistral that is not already known. It is one of the most legendary bakeries in Barcelona, located near Plaza Universitat, and there you can enjoy their iconic mini-sized croissants or their cocas de forner. A show that does not understand diets.
📍 Carrer de Torres i Amat, 7; Carrer d’Astúries, 35
Demasié, the cinnammon rolls of madness
To discover Demasié was to discover one of the sweet meccas of Barcelona. It’s worth taking a look at the report we filmed with them, but it ‘s even more worthwhile to stop by their display case, salivate and try some of their cinnamon rolls.
Their coffee is also very good and they have a great variety of sweets and even savory items such as focaccias or sandwiches. But if you’re having trouble deciding, don’t mess around: go for the cinnamon rolls.
The best ice creams in Barcelona
Ice creams go well in summer and winter, and if you were still not sure which are the best ice creams in Barcelona, we have it (more or less) clear. That’s why we leave you this list with which you can accompany an ideal afternoon snack.

Lekker Café’s Dutch mini-tarts
In this cafeteria located next to the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi, they serve pofferjets, Dutch miniature pofferjets that go well with both sweet and savory flavors. You can have them with fruit, with nutella, with butter and sugar, but also with eggs and Iberian pork or with goat cheese and nuts. A great snack to have while traveling in Holland.
📍 Plaça de Sant Josep Oriol, 6
Chök
This pastry shop is another of the main temples of sin in the city. Although their specialty is doughnuts and cronuts (a joyful hybrid between a doughnut and a croissant). Even so, you won’t only find sweet treats there. His latest creation is a sponge bread berlina filled with pulled pork.

The best croissant in the country
<shortcode data-tag=”trackLink” 0=”link_url=”https://barcelonasecreta.com/el-mejor-cruasan-del-pais-vuelve-a-estar-en-barcelona/”“>We told you last year that Canal had won the award for best croissant in the country again. It is enough to try it to understand the prize but, fortunately, in Barcelona we have a handful of bakeries that make croissants of real luxury.
And there are few things better than snacking (and having a good croissant for breakfast), so we recommend that you take a stroll through one of these bakeries on any given afternoon to understand why it’s time to bring back the snack.

Maru Botana the best Argentinean pastries arrive in Barcelona
Maybe Maru Botana doesn’t sound familiar to you, but try asking an Argentinean you know (it’s not difficult in Barcelona) if they know Maru Botana, and see the smile of affection they get when they think of her. The pastry-influencer is one of the most important pastry chefs in Argentina, with 7 stores and a million and a half followers, and now she has opened a store in Barcelona.
She herself explains that she wants to “recover the snack” with her place. The Argentine custom of sitting down with a coffee and a mate to have some sweets and chat with no other purpose than to chat has been lost in Barcelona, which once used to dedicate the afternoons to stroll around with a chocolate in her hands. The specialty coffees served here along with pastries such as almond sablé, Basque cheesecake and, of course, alfajores and facturas, seek to recover that tradition or make it easier for Argentine expatriates.

Horchata, the quintessential snack from Barcelona
There is no need for a long presentation. Although it has some detractors, horchata is the favorite drink of those who love it (as is our case). For this reason, we leave you here a route with the best horchaterias of Barcelona so you can go right now to get your glass of horchata and your fartons and enjoy the most barcelonian evening of all.
Our route through specialty coffee
For some, specialty coffee is three drawings on the milk foam and a photo on social networks; for true coffee lovers, however, it is religion. If you already know it, we don’t have much to discover for you. If you still don’t know what the story is about, we warn you that once you have tried specialty coffee and your palate adapts to the good stuff, you will not want to go back to drinking industrial coffee from any bar.
Here you have our tour of some of our favorite specialty coffee shops in Barcelona barcelona’s favorite specialty coffee shops. And we also give you another tip: to try the coffee from Ruma’s Coffee which was left out of our list but is extraordinary and in this link you have a delicious promotion.
