Barcelona is pure theater. From great temples of opera to alternative venues with neighborhood soul, the city is full of stages where magic happens every night. Here is a selection of the most emblematic, historic and vibrant theaters in Barcelona, also the most beautiful, where you can see theater, opera, dance or musicals, and enjoy in the best of settings all the performing arts of the city.
Gran Teatre del Liceu
The Liceu is much more than a theater: it is a cultural institution, an icon of La Rambla and the epicenter of opera in Barcelona. Its 24/25 season promises to dream big, with opera, dance and world-class concerts. In addition, it has just unveiled sculptural doors by Jaume Plensa, a tribute to Miró and Gaudí, which are already part of the Barcelonalandscape1. And if mystery is your thing, don’t miss the chilling prophecy that hangs over the Liceu.

Grec Theater
The Teatre Grec is the heart of Barcelona’s summer. This open-air theater, on the mountain of Montjuïc, is the epicenter of the Grec Festival, which every year fills the city with performing arts, music and dance in a magical setting. If you are looking for an unforgettable night of theater under the stars, this is the place for you.

Teatre Lliure
With venues in Montjuïc and Gràcia, the Teatre Lliure is, together with the Mercat de les Flors and the Institut del Teatre, in essence, the city of theater within the city. This is where the biggest names on the scene and the most groundbreaking proposals come together. It is also one of the venues of the Grec Festival and together with the Mercat de les Flors, home of dance, always has a program that covers all the performing arts.

Victòria Theater
If the Paral-lel remains one of the houses of the performing arts in Barcelona, it is thanks to the rhythm of the musicals of the Teatre Victòria. Shows such as “Mar i Cel” have triumphed here and every season new productions arrive, making this theater the home of musicals in Barcelona.
📍 Av. del Paral-lel, 67
Tivoli Theater
The Tívoli is the living history of Barcelona’s theater. Its elegant hall, opened in 1919, hosts all kinds of shows: from big musicals and plays to small concerts and monologues.
📍 Carrer de Casp, 8
Poliorama Theater
Right on the Rambla, the Poliorama is a classic that never fails. Its program combines comedy, drama and also, importantly, family and children’s shows.
📍 La Rambla, 115
El Molino
An icon of cabaret and Barcelona nightlife, El Molino is still synonymous with entertainment and fun, thanks to its reopening by the group that runs the Cruïlla Festival, which has turned it into the home of Jazz and local concerts in Barcelona, with a well-curated musical (and gastronomic) offer for a very pleasant experience at a very good price.
📍 Carrer de Vilà i Vilà, 99
Coliseum Theater
In the heart of Gran Via, the Coliseum alternates theater, musicals, concerts and magic shows. Its program is as varied as its audience, and its hall is one of the most beautiful in the city.
📍 Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 595
Muntaner Theater
A classic is back! After six years of closure, the Sala Muntaner reopened its doors in 2024 under the name of Teatre Muntaner. The space, which was a benchmark of the Barcelona scene for more than two decades, now bets on a renewed program focused on humor. This is great news for the city’s culture and for those who missed this local theater.

Flamenco theater in Barcelona
In the heart of the Born, the 18th century Casa Montagut becomes the new temple of flamenco in the city. This historic mansion houses the Barcelona Flamenco Theater, which premieres “Inspiración”, a theatrical and emotional show directed by José Galváñ. With a double daily performance, here flamenco is experienced with intensity and modernity, moving away from the traditional tablao to connect with all audiences.
