If eating well is a pleasure, having a good breakfast is a privilege. Sitting quietly in front of a cup of coffee to accompany it with any croissant, eggs, or snack and having time in front of us to enjoy it is a real luxury that we cannot always enjoy in our daily lives, and that is why, when we have it, we value it more than ever.
Beyond the brunch synonymous with excesses and Costumbres learned from outside, breakfast is an art of precision, a complete meal that can be adjusted to the time we have, but in which quality products and the right decisions are necessary for a satisfactory result.
We have learned to distinguish a good coffee, a good sausage, the best cakes we know which of them we want (or if we want them all), when it’s time to have breakfast and which one fits the time we have that day, and we can choose between a well-made sandwich or a freshly squeezed juice. To find the best of each (or all), we bring you a list of the best places to have breakfast in Barcelona where you won’t deprive yourself of anything on a difficult morning.
Three Marks Coffee
Three namesakes, the three Marcs, obviously, set up this coffee shop, which is also a roastery and already has three locations in the city, becoming one of the references of the specialty coffee in the city. Its first and main location is at the intersection of Carrer d’Ausiàs Marc and Marina. Its roastery is in the Fòrum (Moll de la Rda., 10), where you can also try their coffee they have just opened a third location in Poblenou, in the Six N. Fivestudio. Three Marks Coffee is coffee elevated to its maximum expression.

Can Ros Winery
A must for any pro gracienc . Anyone who goes there will immediately notice that native pride of those who know they belong to a place like this, which combines charm, familiarity, tradition and, above all, excellent food, Can Ros is a little gem that dazzles both for its sandwiches (in fact, we already told you why their sandwiches are among the best in town) and for the anchovies in vinegar for those who dare to try such a delicacy in the morning.
Here, by the way, we practice esmorzar de forquilla, breakfast with a fork, that venerable Catalan tradition that turns a hearty midday recipe such as cap i pota or fricandó into a breakfast dish. And if you want the best of both worlds, you can order the meatball sandwich, where great stews become sandwiches, creating a perfect synthesis.

Hidden Coffee
The best thing about Hidden is its coffee, you might say. But also the good vibes of their baristas, who know you and serve you as they would in any other bar in the neighborhood but without ashtray-scented coffee. In addition, serving indisputably one of the best coffees in Barcelona (roasted in-house), they have the most competitive prices for specialty coffee in the city. Their double espresso is 1.70 euros.

Little Fern
For those who are caught by Poblenou or surroundings little Fern is another of our breakfast paradises. A place full of light and with a very pleasant atmosphere between floors. You can opt for a croissant pudding, homemade banana bread, a bowl of açai with granola and seasonal fruits, Turkish eggs or kimchi pancakes.
Here they work the brunch concept, but if you are in the mood for a lighter or more traditional breakfast, we recommend their delicious cakes and cookies (also with gluten-free and vegan options).

Demasié
Marc and Miquel are the fourth generation of a family of pastry chefs and together they manage Demasié one of our favorite spots in the Born. And since recently they have had a new premises in the Plaça Santa Maria del Mar.
They have everything: cookies, cakes, sandwiches, good coffee, delicious focaccias and spectacular stuffed bombs. But the real jewel in the crown is their cinnamon rolls. They have about 15 different flavors although the first one they recommend is the classic cinnamon. Dipping one of their delicacies in a coffee (of quite good quality) that they serve right there, is to ensure a ticket to heaven in the morning.

Satan’s Coffee Corner
Although the first location in the Gothic Quarter, one of the pioneers of specialty coffee in Barcelona, has closed, its Eixample location is still open. So, if you want to be calmer than you were in the previous bar, stop by the one in the Casa Bonay hotel, in the middle of Gran Via and very close to Tetuán.
Satan’s is a specialty coffee shop, and that’s an hour away. There they shuffle good coffees, combinations and the art of knowing how to serve it. They listen to you, advise you and pamper you. So, as if every day is Monday morning.
📍 Gran Via, 700
Federal Café
Although there are those who detest it for having become an emblem of the hipster, we can’t deny that the breakfasts at Federal deserve a mention. We find the classic croissants or toast with butter and jam (with slices of good bread, and not that bread that sticks to the palate), but there are also more elaborate toasts with avocado, eggs(benedict, poached…), creme frâiche (if you like cheese, a wonder of heaven) and even with bacon or fatty foods.
Our favorite place is the one in the Gothic Quarter, in the Passatge de la Pau, where you can sit and read the newspaper while having a coffee and feel that time has stopped.

Funky Bakers
Its first small store, located in the Born the restaurant’s bakery, sandwiches and Nomad’s coffee to go are a must-try. If I had to choose just one of their sweets, it would be their babka, which they make with cardamom and chocolate.
But if you prefer to take life more calmly and sit down for a quiet breakfast, they have just opened a new place in the Eixample where you can do what we all want, and turn the whole day into an eternal breakfast.
📍 Passeig del Born, 10 | Carrer de Diputació, 347
Brunells
The bakery Brunells one of the veterans of the city, opened in 1852. A few months ago it underwent a radical change of image, incorporating new products, such as the increasingly admired specialty coffee, roasted by the people of Magnifico. Brunells can also boast of having been awarded the title for the best croissant in Spain. They are worth trying.
📍 Carrer de la Princesa, 22
Palmer Cafeteria
La Palmer is the place that everyone would like to have under the house but of which, unfortunately, there are not so many in Barcelona. A simple and homely place, where they serve without extravagance first class sandwiches and good coffee. No hipsterisms. Without calling sandwich a sandwich or latte a latte. No chai in the drink or pastrami in the bread.
Good sobrassadas, sausages, sardines, quality hams and good bread. With the talent that comes from simplicity done right, the Palmer is the place to be on a Sunday morning.
📍Plaça de Santa Madrona, 1,
Petitbo Farm
La Granja Petitbo has combined two antagonistic breakfast worlds: the hipster and the traditional. What used to be a lifelong farmhouse is now a tastefully decorated bar at the Eixample that serves as a refuge in the maelstrom of Passeig Sant Joan. Here they serve the classics of a traditional breakfast, with good croissants and coffees, and tasty vegetable sandwiches.
But if you have that hipster friend who can’t go without his brunch, at Petitbo they also prepare eggs benedict, natural juices, cakes and pancakes, and a weekend brunch that is a hit. In short, a guaranteed goal not to miss the most important meal of the day.

Neme Bar (Mercat Collblanc)
There are discreet places that manage to carve out a niche for themselves in the star-system of restaurants with large venues and bombastic openings s. The Nem is one of them. Hidden in the Mercat de Collblanc, its cod sandwich in batter with peppers is an ode to a Barcelona that no longer exists.
Good bread, good products and a bar that is just a bar where you can accompany your hearty sandwiches with a latte, and watch life go by in the market, which is always the symbol of life. What more could you ask for in a breakfast?
📍 Carrer Occident, 08903, Mercat de Collblanc
Elena Farm
You can have breakfast, and you can have breakfast, with a capital letter. At Granja Elen they practice the latter, since in the mornings they open to convert their gastronomic restaurant into a breakfast house where they offer first class sandwiches and esmorzars de forquilla with stews that carry the signature of a top level restaurant.
Watch out for their tortillas, their cap i pota and the sausages they use for their sandwiches. It won’t be the cheapest breakfast on the list, but it will be one of the best breakfasts you can have in Barcelona.
